Echocardiogram

Echocardiogram

What is an Echocardiogram?

An echocardiogram is a non-invasive ultrasound test that uses sound waves to create real-time images of your heart. It provides detailed insight into heart function, chamber size, valve performance, and overall heart health.

At Potomac Cardiovascular Consultants, we use advanced 2D, Doppler, and 3D echocardiography to detect heart abnormalities with clarity and accuracy.

Why It’s Important

This test helps diagnose a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Heart valve disease
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Congenital heart defects
  • Pericardial disease

Our experienced technicians and cardiologists ensure your results are reviewed promptly to guide your care effectively.

What to Expect During Your Echo

The procedure typically takes 30–60 minutes. It’s safe, painless, and requires no radiation. A gel is applied to your chest, and a probe (transducer) is used to scan the heart.

You can return to your normal activities immediately after the test.
