Cardiac PET Scan

What is a Cardiac PET Scan?

A cardiac PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scan is a highly accurate, non-invasive imaging test that evaluates blood flow and cellular function in your heart. It uses a small amount of radioactive tracer to create detailed 3D images of your heart tissue and circulation.

At Potomac Cardiovascular Consultants, we use state-of-the-art PET technology to detect coronary artery disease, assess myocardial viability, and evaluate heart muscle health with superior precision.

Why It’s Important

Cardiac PET is ideal for diagnosing and managing heart conditions such as:

  • Coronary artery disease (CAD)
  • Ischemic heart disease
  • Myocardial viability (after heart attack)
  • Microvascular disease
  • Unclear or inconclusive stress test results

Our expert cardiologists interpret your scan to tailor treatment and optimize your heart health outcomes.

What to Expect During a PET Scan

The scan typically lasts 60–90 minutes. You’ll receive a tracer injection, and images are captured while your heart is at rest and under stress (either through exercise or medication).

The procedure is safe, painless, and does not require recovery time. Most patients resume their normal activities immediately.
